How EnerGenie Works

How does EnerGenie work?

For Self-Service customers: You have the power to choose how much we assist. Our technology can analyze your electricity usage history, then compare it against dozens of plans provided to us by select electricity providers we have partnered with. Or, you can choose to quickly choose the rate you like best without extra assistance with our online tools. Ultimately you choose which plan you want to sign up with and manage the signup from our website. It’s easy and seamless!

For Full-Service Concierge customers: Like with Self-Service customers, our technology can analyze your electricity usage history. However, we will do the comparisons, choose the best electricity plan, and sign you up with your provider. After that we will help manage your electricity account, and provide addition VIP customer support if you have any questions about your bill. When it is time to renew, we will automatically start the process for you all over again.

How does EnerGenie differ from other power comparison sites

EnerGenie allows our customers to choose how they want to use our service. We can show the electricity rates we offer from our select electricity provider partners and compare rates directly on our website. Or our customers can choose to let us do the analysis and help manage the electricity account, like a full-service concierge.

How will you keep my personal information secure?

We take data security very seriously. From the basic steps of requiring strong passwords and 2-factor authentication (2FA) for our Genies to rigorous training on data security to our software being built with highly-secure database encryption technology. We’ll spare all the boring techie details here, but we’re so confident in our system’s security that many of our Genies are also customers.

How will it work if I move to a new location?

Staying within a deregulated area of Texas? We’ve got you covered! We’ll cancel the current plan. No fuss and no early termination fees from your electricity provider! Then we will help move your service to your new location.

Moving out of a deregulated area of Texas or – gasp! – outside of Texas?

We’ll be sad to see you go, but remember the good times. Then…we’ll help you terminate your current plan and close our account if we can’t serve you in the area.

Do I have to provide my social security number as well?

Social Security Number is required by most retail electricity providers in Texas.

What if I don’t want to share my SSN?

Social Security Number is needed to sign up with most electricity providers.

How many electricity providers do you compare for choosing the right plan?

Texas has dozens of retail electricity providers offering dozens of energy plans to suit various needs. We’ll find the right one for you.

What areas do you cover with your services?

We serve all the deregulated areas of Texas.

What factors do you consider to select the best energy plan?

For Self-Service customers: You have the power to choose which plan you want from our website. We pull in electricity rates from several electricity providers we have partnered with and give you tools to estimate your usage and savings, and ways to filter electricity plans to the best electricity rate.

For Full-Service Concierge customers: We use your electricity usage history and other preference settings to set you up with the best energy plan from our select electricity provider partners for maximized savings. Even after enrolling you in the best plan, our system still regularly monitors the electricity rates for better offers that can increase your savings.

What are the benefits of an EnerGenie membership?

Being savvy while shopping for electricity is overwhelming and time consuming. Who wants to cross-reference prices, rate formulas, and usage history? Exactly – no one…except maybe our Excel fanatic coworker. EnerGenie takes the hassle out of shopping for your next best electricity plan by comparing all the data for you.

What do I need to become a member?

If you’ve ever enrolled in your own electricity plan before, you will notice we ask for the same types of things that a provider would ask you for. In addition, we ask for access to your smart meter data (if available) and preferences to better help us pinpoint the right plan for you.

Are there any additional services available with EnerGenie membership?

Our service includes:

Energy plan shopping
We analyze your usage history and service preferences to pair you up with the best energy plan. When it’s time to find a new plan we automatically get to work for you.

Account monitoring
We keep tabs on your account with the provider, which allows us to work on your behalf to address any concerns or questions that may arise.

Usage and billing monitoring
Our system learns from your usage and billing to keep finding the best energy plans for you. We provide an easy-to-use dashboard that breaks down usage and billing, and we even send you periodic usage emails and tips.

What do I do if I want to cancel my EnerGenie subscription.

Of course we don’t want to lose you as a EnerGenie customer, but in order to do this please call customer care during normal business hours at (713) 574-7669.

Do you have a Refer-A-Friend program

Yes, we do! Please click here to see our refer-a-friend terms and conditions. If you sign up to be an EnerGenie member, refer-a-friend information will also be located in the My Account portal.

Plans Products and Services

Do you run a referral program? How does it work?

Yes, we do. Please see our Refer a Friend details in the MyAccount Portal.

How can you get me the best rate?

We analyze your usage history and service preferences, then we compare those against the dozens of electricity plans available in your area from electricity providers we have partnered with.

What if I want to switch my electricity plan in the middle of the month?

Please call one of our amazing Genies at (713) 574-7669. Please note if you’re under a contract, you may incur an early termination fee.

Can I change the electricity company that EnerGenie selects for me?

Yes, you can change your electricity provider any time, subject to specific terms and conditions of your contract.

What about the hidden fees in the plans you choose for me?

There will be no hidden fees in plans selected by us. We calculate the actual costs by identifying all the charges based on your historical usage.

Do I need to give a deposit to the energy provider for starting my plan?

This will depend on your credit worthiness and the options available with the electricity provider. In cases like these, we will be sure to communicate all details with you.

Do you also compare no deposit electricity plans as well?

Most providers require a deposit if you do not meet their credit score requirement. This information is not immediately available to EnerGenie or anyone outside of the provider so we cannot guarantee we are able to view and compare such plans.

When switching electricity providers, will I lose power at my home for some time?

Switching is seamless. You won’t lose power. Your new provider will even notify your old provider of the switch to make it easy as pie for you (ooooh, pie!)

Billing & Payments

Will you charge extra if I need energy plans for more than one location?

For Self-Service customers: No, our self-service option is free to use.

For Full-Service Concierge customers: Our membership plans are charged per meter/ESI ID.

How will the enrollment process work with electricity providers?

Once you sign up with EnerGenie, we will take over the process of analyzing your current usage and available energy plans in your area to select the right one.

What can you do to help if I am still under contract with my electricity company?

If you are under contract, there are 2 options: 1) depending on the contract end date, we’ll sign you up with a new plan after your old one ends, or 2) we’ll crunch some numbers. If your savings are greater than the early termination fee, we will sign you up with the plan that offers the greatest savings

Will I pay my electricity bills to the energy company or EnerGenie?

You will always pay for your electricity service directly to the electricity provider – we get you set up and stay on top of your account status, etc.

Can I choose between fixed-rate or variable payment plans?

EnerGenie doesn’t recommend variable-rate plans as they tend to be pricier.
We prefer choosing the fixed rate and fixed term plans only for our users. However,
if your usage pattern requires, we may consider tiered-rate plans for you (if available).

What happens to my early termination fee if I am in a contract and cancel it in the middle?

If you switch you are responsible for early termination fees.

Account Information

How long does it take to enroll in a new plan through EnerGenie?

Our process begins as soon as you enroll and provide us with your switch date.

Can I opt for automated payments for paying my monthly bills?

You may opt out of autopay with your electricity provider unless the electricity plan requires autopay.

When and how will I receive my electricity bills?

You will receive your electricity bill electronically (e-mail) and your monthly payments will automatically charge.

Who should I contact when I have any issue with power at my home?

If you have a power outage at your place, you can contact the Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) in your area.

What happens if my electricity company goes out of business?

If your electricity provider is acquired by another company, we will facilitate your move to the new provider.
We will keep you informed about the process and ensure zero disruption in the power supply.
