Is First Choice Power Right for Me?
Texas is one of 29 states in the country that have deregulated energy. Since 1999, most Texans have had the opportunity to shop around for their own electricity company and plan. In the 20 plus years since deregulation began in Texas, over 100 REPs (retail electric providers) have opened their doors and started selling electricity.
First Choice Power is one of over 120 of these REPs that are vying for your service. First Choice Power is available in various parts of Texas and offers competitive rates with solid plans. If you’re wondering if this power company is available in your area, contact us to find out! We’ll be able to find the best rates that First Choice Power and its competitors have to offer. Let’s find out more about First Choice Power and some of the plans they offer.
Who is First Choice Power?
First Choice Power has a history that is long and complicated, to say the least. It started out as an electric company over 70 years ago in Texas and was one of the original power providers before deregulation. After deregulation, however, it remained a REP until they were acquired by Direct Energy in 2011.
Direct Energy is a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest providers of electricity and energy in the United States. As an acquisition of Direct Energy, First Choice Power continued to sell electricity as a REP until recently in early 2022. While they no longer accept new customers themselves, they manage existing plans and work with Reliant Energy to find the best deals for you.
What Types of Plans Does First Choice Power Offer?
All of First Choice Power’s plans are now offered through Reliant Energy. Because Reliant Energy is one of the largest REPs in all of Texas, there are tons of plans to choose from. However, quantity doesn’t always result in quality and not all of their plans are right for everyone. Let’s look at some of the different plans offered by First Choice Power through Reliant Energy.
First Choice Power offers a number of residential plans for houses, condos, apartments, and anywhere else you might live. These plans vary based on where you live but they are typically fixed-rate, variable-rate, or prepaid. We’ll go over some of the specific plans below.
Not only do they have a ton of residential plans, but First Choice also features a number of commercial business plans. Whether you own a small, medium, or large business or if you’re a one-person operation, First Choice Power has options for you.
No Deposit Prepaid Plans
Not all REPs offer prepaid electricity plans, but First Choice Power is proud of the ones that they offer through Reliant. Prepaid electricity plans are no hassle, contract-free plans where you pay for your electricity at the start of each month. If you go over your allotted amount, you simply contact Reliant and let them know that you want to purchase more. There is rarely a loss in power if you run out of electricity on your prepaid plan when you’re locked in with First Choice Power.
Fixed-rate plans are some of the most popular in Texas and First Choice Power offers some of the best. The term lengths that they offer range from 6 months all the way to 24 or 36 months depending on how long you want to be locked into your contract. You’re guaranteed to stay at the right that you sign up with throughout the duration of your term.
Free Nights and Weekends Plans
Some of Reliant and First Choice Power’s most popular plans are their free nights and weekends plans. These types of plans have set times during nights and/or weekends when you can use all the electricity you want for free. Truly Free Nights 12, Truly Free Weekends 12, and Conservation Plan 24 are three of their most popular free nights and weekends plans.
